1:1 Play Therapy

What is Play Therapy?

Play Therapy is a gentle yet powerful way to support children’s emotional, social, and mental well-being. It is a form of counselling that uses play, toys, and creative materials as the main means of communication, the language children know best.

Children often find it difficult to express how they feel in words. Through play, they communicate their inner world,  their worries, experiences, and needs.

I use a non-directive approach, which means the child leads the process. This gives them control over how far and how fast they go, within the safety of the therapeutic space. This approach allows children to explore and process feelings in a way that feels safe and natural to them.

In Play Therapy, toys, creative materials, sand, movement, and storytelling become tools for expression and healing. Within this accepting space, children can make sense of their feelings and experiences at their own pace.

With the right support, every child holds the inner capacity to heal, grow, and thrive. My role is to build a calm, trusting relationship where healing can gently take root and lasting change can grow.

Who is Play Therapy for?

Play Therapy can support a wide range of children, whatever their story. It may be especially helpful for children who are:

  • Feeling anxious, withdrawn, or low in mood

  • Struggling with anger, big emotions, or outbursts

  • Finding it hard to make or keep friendships

  • Coping with family breakdown, separation, or loss

  • Dealing with changes like moving home or school

  • Recovering from trauma, neglect, or early adversity

  • Living with illness. either their own or a family member’s

  • Showing signs of low self-esteem or confidence

  • Experiencing difficulties with attachment or trust

  • Neurodivergent (e.g. autism, ADHD) and needing a space that adapts to them

  • Selectively mute or non-verbal

  • Fostered, adopted, or in kinship care

  • Impacted by bullying or feeling different from peers

Play Therapy doesn’t require a diagnosis. It’s for any child who may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or in need of emotional support, especially when words aren’t enough.
